I drawn some variation of the "start tile"
They are CRLR-type (city, road, land, road) as usual start.
These tiles can divide the fields and the first road in many
different ways.

You can download it HERE (revised version 11/15/'11), then print and cut.

I hope you like it!...

THE VILLAGE

This splits the upper field, the roads are divided

THE WELL

This splits the upper field, the road is the same

THE INN

Start with an inn

TWO ROADS

This divides the field in three parts, everyone touch the city

ROADS TO THE CORNERS

Nice!

TWO HOUSES

A single field

THE FORTRESS

Particular extravaganza

STAR-CROSSED LOVERS: (no more avaiable)

Great ! Did you realise it with Photoshop ?

Thank you!
I used GIMP, it's quite the same Cheesy

After a lot of games played, I notice that the strategies are a little bit different using this starting-tiles.
I notice that ROADS TO THE CORNERS are intriguing, because it often twists the fields upside-down. It's nice to play.
TWO HOUSES creates a large central field, so there will be an interesting battle among farmers.
THE FORTRESS it's not so strange, it can create a lot of small fields, it's very playable.
I also thought a "two houses" variant, with a tunnel instead the houses, so you have a single field and a not interrupted road.

STAR-CROSSED LOVERS are not very interesting Sad I'll think something better, sooner or later... Any suggestions?

What about these?

I like the idea of using the tunnels to continue the road while opening the fields up at the same time.  Thumbs up

Cianopanza, are you MOS? I've seen these tiles before but I don't recall where exactly.

Yes, I am! Smiley
I think you seen these tiles on Boardgame Geek

Anyway...
I just made two brand new tiles... the ideas number 1 and 3

THE TUNNEL

A single field and a not interrupted road.

THE SUBWAY

For an asymmetrical development...

You can download the revised version of starting-tiles HERE

Cool! These are nice tiles. Great job! I downloaded the sheet and will be printing them. I'll probably print them all and use a draw bag to randomly select the starting tile each time we play. That'll be an interesting twist.  Smiley

That does sound like a pretty nifty idea.  You could also use several of them stuck together or stick them on the Wheel or city of Carcassonne, or both, or even throw a few of them in with the river tiles.  That's what I do with the original start tile.

Yes, that's what we do too when we're playing with the River.

Oh yeah, we do this with the River every time... but these new starter tiles would be a fun mix up  Wink
